Why Do You Need Wisdom Teeth Extraction?

Reasons why you need wisdom teeth extraction

Wisdom teeth, also known as the third molars, are located at the very back of the four corners of the mouth. They may appear anywhere from your late teens to your early twenties and are the last set of molars to grow. Some people do not experience any problems while their wisdom teeth grow. However, not everyone is as lucky.

The majority of people in Salt Lake City and everywhere else on the globe will need wisdom teeth removal to prevent various oral problems, such as tooth day and erosion, cysts, and infections.

Reasons for Wisdom Teeth Removal

If your third molars erupted without causing any problems, then there is no need to have them extracted. However, if any pain or discomfort occurs, you may need to have them removed. The most common reason for a wisdom teeth extraction is impacted teeth. Other reasons include:

  • They are causing infection and inflammation
  • Nearby teeth are getting damaged
  • Overcrowding of teeth
  • The growth of tiny cysts or tumors in the jawbone

Common Complications of Impacted Teeth

Impacted teeth are among the most common reasons people need to have their wisdom teeth removed. This occurs when the third molars don’t have enough room to grow into. In most cases, they seem simple enough and will not cause you pain or problems.

But just because you don’t experience any symptoms doesn’t mean you should ignore them. Even asymptomatic molars can cause problems later on. Some of the more common complications of impacted teeth are the following:

  • Jaw pain
  • Irritated, inflamed, and bleeding gums
  • Swollen jaw
  • Bad breath
  • Damage to the nearby structures
  • Gum or bone loss

It’s not always necessary to have a wisdom teeth extraction. However, if they are impacted or causing you pain and discomfort, you should seriously consider going to a dentist or an oral surgeon to get diagnosed and treated right away.
