Shock and Vibration
To produce real life conditions, most facilities perform shock and vibration tests to make sure that weak links show themselves from the start of the manufacturing process and not when it’s already mass produced. Coming in various intensities, vibration tests, in a way, prepare the products for the stresses anticipated during their shipment.
Shock procedures are conducted along with vibration tests and products undergo various magnitudes, including random shocks and sine tests.
This test is especially important given that drones tend to stay in the air for a long time. If the product survives after setting the equipment to a 15000ft altitude, then it passes. Apart from that, manufacturers may also conduct decompression testing.
Most products fail because of high temperatures; especially that UAVs are up in the air most of the time, it’s unavoidable that these get the most sun exposure so, testing facilities perform temperature tests to make sure that the UAV’s internal cooling and heating systems are working fine. This also determines the products’ thermal limits of operation.
As you can see, the more these products undergo tests such as these, the more it strengthens their reliability and durability, as they can weather even harsh conditions.
